Recently, we reported that the Vivo T4 5G has officially launched in India, with three variants starting from ₹21,999. Available from April 29 on Flipkart, Vivo’s e-store, and retail outlets, this phone isn’t just another 5G device—it’s a blend of performance, design, and smart features that’s hard to ignore. It’s loaded with AI, a sleek AMOLED display, and a solid camera game.

Vivo Planning Foldable Phone With Detachable 2nd Screen

And now, with the introduction of a detachable second screen in a new patent, Vivo may be transforming foldable technology and moving away from conventional foldables that only bend in the middle.

Read on to find out all the details about this new technology development by Vivo!

Vivo Patents Detachable Second Screen

Because of the design’s emphasis on modularity and multifunctionality, both screens can function independently or in tandem, creating opportunities for distinctive user experiences.

The patent, which was submitted in China with application number 202411862519.0, outlines a system in which the second screen and main device are connected magnetically.

Communication between the two components is made possible by contact points along the edges connecting each unit’s hardware module.

While the secondary screen uses its own built-in hardware to respond, show images, or play audio, the primary screen serves as the primary controller.

When detachable, the secondary screen can still operate on its own, taking input from the primary device or any other compatible device. Its internal screen and speaker can be used to play music or display media.

How Does Detachable Screen Work?

This detachable display can be used as a smart remote control for other electronic devices, a presentation screen, or a small media player.

When connected, the units can share power and provide direct control, which could address a major issue with foldables: the screen’s inactive state when the device is folded.

When both screens are in use, users can be more creative and productive and use the setup in more interesting ways.

If the second screen had its own speaker system, it might also produce better sound.

The idea suggests a new class of foldables that are both flexible and modular, even though it is still only a patent with no verified product.
